VON STEINBACH GERMAN SHEPHERD DOGS
Long Coated German Shepherds

If you like the look of the long coated German Shepherd Dog, you are not alone. World-wide many people like the softer look of the long coated dog. The correct long coat has the protective outer coat with good texture as well as the required undercoat.
Many of the top bloodlines produce long coats routinely as some of the original dogs used to create this breed were long coated. A correct long coat has a double coat that is functional and protective, but has longer hair around the ears and a fuller tail and furnishings.
Long coats are not rare, valuable, or unique in any way other than their coat is longer. They are just like the rest of the littermates. Breed a long coat to a long coat and you will get long coats. Breed normal coated dogs that carry the long coat factor and you will get some coats. But if you like the softer look, they are special to you.
We do occasionally get some long coats and raise them just like our "normal" so they get the same careful socialization and preparation for their future homes. If you are interested in one, let us know.
